Quick answer: Divide the litres you expect to sell per day by the hours your plant can run, then add about 25% headroom. For example, 1,500 litres a day over 10 hours needs 150 LPH, so a 250 LPH plant is the safe choice. Busy estates and wholesale refill points usually need 500–1000 LPH.
Key facts
  • Plant size (LPH) = daily litres ÷ running hours + 25%
  • Storage tanks let a smaller plant meet peak demand
  • Borehole water with high TDS needs RO; low-TDS municipal water may only need UF
  • Bigger plants lower the cost per litre

Customers come in waves: mornings, evenings and weekends. A clean product-water tank filled overnight lets a 250 LPH plant serve peaks it could not meet directly.

Frequently asked questions

Which size RO plant should I start with?

Most new refill shops start with 125–250 LPH plus a storage tank, then add capacity as sales grow.

How many litres does a 250 LPH plant produce per day?

About 2,500 litres in a 10-hour day, more if it runs longer.

Is a bigger plant more profitable?

Only if you can sell the water. A bigger plant lowers the cost per litre but costs more upfront.

RO or UF for my refill shop?

RO for borehole or high-TDS water; UF for low-TDS municipal water.
