How the numbers work
| Figure | How to get it |
|---|---|
| Margin per litre | Selling price − buying price (from your farmer or cooperative) |
| Litres per day | Count what you can sell, not the machine size |
| Monthly costs | Rent, electricity for cooling, wages, cleaning materials, licences spread per month |
| Payback | Machine price ÷ monthly profit |
What pushes profit up or down
- Volume: a busy location beats a cheaper rent.
- Spoilage: milk that is not sold in time is lost margin; buy to match sales.
- Power: a well-insulated machine with a good compressor uses less electricity.
- Hygiene: one bad batch loses customers; follow the cleaning routine and Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) rules.
